It’s been a while since we’ve had a new show from New Zealand, so it’s great that one will debut in the US next month alongside a fan-favorite drama from Australia.
For updates about shows from Australia and New Zealand added to US channels and streaming services throughout the month, see the Down Under TV Viewing Guide.
Programs and dates are subject to change without prior notice.
NATIONAL PREMIERES
The Gulf (NZ-DE)
The Gulf centers around the moral disintegration of Detective Senior Sergeant Jess Savage (Kate Elliott, Wentworth, Dear Murderer), a cop who finds herself caught between upholding the legal justice system and her own morality as she investigates crimes on her home patch of Waiheke Island, New Zealand.
After losing her memory and her late husband in a car crash, Jess becomes determined to bring the killer to justice, as she is convinced that someone is trying to kill her because of something she uncovered in a recent investigation. Thus Jess, in effect, investigates herself while she retraces her steps over the weeks prior.
As her colleagues become increasingly uncooperative, Jess’ paranoia really sets in, as does her battle with an addiction to morphine. And as she gets closer to the truth she seeks, Jess discovers that her world isn’t as morally black and white as she’d thought.
The six-episode mystery-crime thriller costars Ido Drent (Offspring, The Making of the Mob), Mark Mitchinson (Straight Forward, Dear Murderer), Alison Bruce (Top of the Lake, The Almighty Johnsons), and Pana Hema Taylor (Westside, The Brokenwood Mysteries).
The Gulf premieres in the US with its first episode on Wednesday, December 4, exclusively on Sundance Now and its digital channels, including Sundance Now on Amazon. New episodes will be added every Wednesday.
The Heart Guy: Series 4 (AU)
Rodger Corser (The Doctor Blake Mysteries, Glitch) is back as bad boy doctor Hugh Knight in this Logie-nominated, fan-favorite drama, which returns with ten new episodes after that drama-packed third season.
The new season finds Hugh — having completed his probation, saved the family farm, and become a dad again (!) — still in Whyhope instead of back in Sydney, dealing with new and continuing issues around love, career, and family.
He isn’t the only one.
(Video is from Series 3)
All of the series regulars return for the new season, including Nicole da Silva (Wentworth), Ryan Johnson (Out of the Blue), Tina Bursill (The Moodys), Hayley McElhinney (Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door), Chloe Bayliss (Reef Doctors), Matt Castley (Blind), Belinda Bromilow (Spirited), and Charles Wu (The Letdown), as well as Miranda Tapsell (Newton’s Law), who joined the cast in Series 3.
New cast members include Dustin Clare (Wolf Creek), Kate Jenkinson (Offspring), and Robyn Nevin (Top of the Lake).
The Heart Guy: Series 4 premieres in the US on Monday, December 9, exclusively on Acorn TV and its digital channels, including Acorn TV on Amazon.
