Fans of The Heart Guy, rejoice! The show has been renewed for a fifth season!
Given what’s going on in the world these day, any bit of good news is welcome, amiright?
So when the news is about a fan-favorite series like The Heart Guy being renewed in spite of the worldwide pandemic, it feels even more celebratory.
For newbies to the series, The Heart Guy stars Rodger Corser (Glitch, Party Tricks, Rush) as Hugh Knight, a bad boy heart surgeon in Sydney whose partying ways lead to professional punishment. Hugh is banned from performing surgery for a year, but he is allowed to practice medicine — as a GP in the rural Aussie town of Whyhope. The thing is, Whyhope is his hometown and where his family still lives.
Over the course of the show’s first four seasons, we see Hugh as he reunites with his parents, brother and ex-girlfriend/current sister-in-law, develops a complicated relationship with the director of the cottage hospital where he works/does his penance, learns he’s a father not once but twice, and falls back into destructive old habits.
We also follow the lives of his family and his boss, as well as the dramas that arise amongst the hospital’s staff and patients.
Nine Network commissioned Season 5 of The Heart Guy and will announce the production dates for the new season as soon as they are able. Given the strict stay-at-home orders that are in place in Australia due to the novel coronavirus, productions on numerous series are currently on hold.
Costars in the series include Nicole da Silva (Wentworth), Ryan Johnson (The Secret Life of Us), Tina Bursill (The Moodys), Hayley McElhinney (The Babadook), Chloe Bayliss (Reef Doctors), Matt Castley (Blind), Belinda Bromilow (Spirited), and Charles Wu (The Letdown).
Stay tuned for updates.
