Two Aussie series premiere in the US next month, including a mystery-crime dramedy that stars Xena, I mean Lucy Lawless.

NATIONAL PREMIERES

My Life Is Murder (AU)

Lucy Lawless (Spartacus, The Code, Ash vs Evil Dead) played a serious badass when she starred in and as Xena: Warrior Princess. In My Life Is Murder, she’s back in action as a different sort of badass — namely as the fearless and unapologetic ex-homicide detective-turned-private investigator Alexa Crowe. Alexa’s unique skills and insights into the darker quirks of human nature allow her to provoke, comfort, and push the right buttons as she unravels the truth behind the most baffling crimes.

Detective Inspector Keiran Hussy (Bernard Curry, Home and Away, Wentworth), Alexa’s ex-boss, enlists her on his trickiest cases. And assisting Alexa as she unmasks hidden passions and dangerous secrets lurking in the energetic city of Melbourne is ambitious twenty-something Madison Feliciano (Ebony Vagulans, The Letdown, The Heart Guy).

Guest stars in the 10-episode series include Danielle Cormack (Wentworth), Don Hany (East West 101), and Grant Piro (Jack Irish).

My Life Is Murder premieres in the US and Canada with Episodes 1 and 2 on Monday, August 5, exclusively on Acorn TV and the Acorn TV channel on Amazon. New episodes will air singly on consecutive Mondays.

The Inbestigators (AU)

There’s a first time for everything, and this is the first time I’ve included a full-on family-children’s program in my coverage of Down Under TV. Why start now? Because The Inbestigators looks like an absolute hoot, a show my (much) younger self probably would have loved.

Maudie Miller (Anna Cooke) is a 10-year-old puzzle prodigy and aspiring private investigator, and her classmate Ezra Banks (Aston Droomer) is an aspiring entrepreneur. Together they form the Inbestigators detective agency (and vlog) and bring on a couple other fifth graders, including socially-skilled Ava Andrikides (Abby Bergman) and athletically-inclined Kyle Kilmson (Jamil Smyth-Secka), to work with them on solving whodunit cases that happen at school or around their neighborhood.

Each episode is 15 minutes long, and actors who feature in the 20-episode series include Maria Angelico (Sisters), James Saunders (Winners & Losers), and Madeleine Jevic (Wentworth).

The Inbestigators, a Netflix Family series, premieres in the US on Friday, August 9, exclusively on Netflix.
