Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles is a backstage pass to one of the world’s greatest entertainment stories — one that celebrates the evolution and enduring cultural impact of entertainment icons The Wiggles, the most successful global children’s act of all time.

Featuring personal archive footage and intimate access to their sold-out shows spanning more than 30 years, the feature-length documentary is the story of a life of music, friendship, joy, and the enduring power of the child in all of us.

Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles is the improbable story of The Wiggles, four friends who recorded a one-off album of children’s music in the early ’90s and changed the global music industry forever. Recognizable by their blue, red, yellow, and purple skivvies, Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Greg Page, and Jeff Fatt became an unlikely music phenomenon, equipped with early childhood teaching fundamentals and a dose of self-belief. Surmounting numerous rejections from industry producers, The Wiggles took their career into their own hands and became the most successful children’s act of all time.

Said Tyler Bern, head of content, Prime Video Australia, New Zealand, and Canada:

“No other children’s act has come close to emulating the same global success and impact of The Wiggles. This film brilliantly encapsulates the phenomenon that is The Wiggles and is a celebration of their lasting legacy as they continue to bring joy and music to people all over the world. The definitive story of a band that is beloved by millions, Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles is a never-before-seen look at their rise, and the challenges they’ve overcome throughout the years. We know our customers will enjoy the hit of nostalgia it brings.”

Director Sally Aitken commented:

“At first glance, the notion of preschool teachers selling out Madison Square Garden is downright absurd. What a phenomenal story for a director to unpack: How did a group of teachers become like The Beatles for preschoolers? I have been entertained and moved in making this film, discovering an amazing journey of self-belief and the power of purpose. The Wiggles’ story comes with heartache and joy, reinvention, and the wisdom of children. So grab your tissues and your smiles, because with intimate interviews and unique, behind-the-scenes moments, I hope you see the individuals behind the iconic sweaters; musicians and artists driven by genuine passion, resilience, reinvention, and joy.”

Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles, an Amazon Australian Original documentary, premieres globally on Tuesday, October 24, exclusively on Prime Video. It will have its world premiere at SXSW Sydney in October.

The documentary is written and directed by Emmy®-nominated director Sally Aitken (The Pacific: In the Wake of Captain Cook with Sam Neill), and produced by Dark Doris, Frog Productions, and SAM Content for Amazon Studios, with major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW. Post, digital, and visual effects are supported by Screen NSW. Developed with the assistance of Screen Australia and Screen NSW, the film’s producers are Aline Jacques, Daniel Story, Cass Avery, Aitken, Fraser Grut, Kate Chiodo, and Luke Field.
