Fans of Packed to the Rafters, rejoice! Amazon has set the global premiere date for the beloved series’ revival, Back to the Rafters. Check out the trailer!
It’s been a long time coming, and the wait is nearly over.
A revival of the award-winning hit comedy-drama series Packed to the Rafters, Back to the Rafters brings audiences the next chapter in the story of the Rafter family, the center of which are parents Dave and Julie, who work to balance their own journey as a couple with the ups and downs of raising a family into adulthood. Rebecca Gibney (Halifax: Retribution, Wanted, Winter) and Erik Thomson (800 Words, The Luminaries, All Saints) reprise their roles as Julie and Dave Rafter.
Others of the original principal cast who return for the revival include Hugh Sheridan (Five Bedrooms) as Ben Rafter, Angus McLaren (The Heart Guy) as Nathan Rafter, Michael Caton (Underbelly Files: Chopper) as Ted Taylor, and George Houvardas (Frayed) as Nick “Carbo” Karandonis. Joining them are Willow Speers (Giants) as Ruby, Julie and Dave’s youngest daughter, and Georgina Haig (Snowpiercer), who takes on the role of Rachel Rafter.
Back to the Rafters picks up six years after the original series’ finale. Dave and Julie have created a new life in the country with Ruby, while the older Rafter children face new challenges and Grandpa Ted struggles to find his place. As Dave enjoys his new-found freedom, Julie must reconcile her responsibilities to the family. They might not be under the same roof, but the same honesty, love, and laughter bond them more tightly now than ever before.
Additional cast members include Haiha Le (Mr Inbetween), Aaron L. McGrath (Mystery Road), Rose Riley (Total Control), Libby Tanner (Wentworth), Bruce Spence (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Felix Williamson (The Commons), and newcomer Kaspar Frost.
Commissioned by Amazon Studios and produced by Seven Studios, Back to the Rafters — the first Amazon Original scripted drama in Australia — is created by Bevan Lee (A Place to Call Home), who serves as Lead Writer. Julie McGauran (Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries) is the Executive Producer and Chris Martin-Jones (McLeod’s Daughters) is the Series Producer.
