NATIONAL PREMIERES

Hannah Gadsby: Something Special (US-AU)

Returning soon to our screens is Primetime Emmy®- and Peabody Award-winning comedian Hannah Gadsby (Nanette, Douglas) with their third Netflix comedy special, Something Special, filmed at the Sydney Opera House. It’s a smart and feel-good (yes, really!) set, in which the comedian talks about their wedding, multiple traumatic encounters with a bunny, and more.

Hannah Gadsby: Something Special, a Netflix Comedy Special, premieres globally on Tuesday, May 9, exclusively on Netflix. (You can set a reminder for it now.)

The Clearing (AU)

Based on the best-selling novel In the Clearing by New Zealand author J.P. Pomare, this Australian psychological thriller is inspired by the darkness of real-life cults in Australia and around the world. Blurring the lines between past and present, reality and nightmare, the series follows the horrors of a cult and a woman who is forced to face the demons from her past in order to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future.

Filmed across Victoria, the eight-part series stars Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches, Hacksaw Ridge), Guy Pearce (Jack Irish, A Spy Among Friends), Miranda Otto (The Usual Suspects, Rake), and Julia Savage (Class of ’07, Mr. Inbetween). The cast also includes Claudia Karvan (Bump), Kate Mulvany (Hunters), Anna Lise Phillips (Harrow), Hazem Shammas (The Secrets She Keeps), Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin), Gary Sweet (Mystery Road), and Doris Younane (Five Bedrooms).

The Clearing, a Hulu Original, premieres in the US on Wednesday, May 24, exclusively on Hulu. It debuts globally on Disney+.

Barons (AU)

Set in the 1970s, this drama series follows a group of hippy friends who will create what will become iconic surf brands (paralleling the story of real-life companies Billabong and Quiksilver), turning two best friends into bitter rivals in the process.

The series stars Sean Keenan (Glitch), Ben O’Toole (Halifax: Retribution), Jillian Nguyen (Clickbait), Hunter Page-Lochard (Harrow), George Pullar (Playing for Keeps), Lincoln Younes (The Heart Guy), Sophia Forrest (Aquaman), Vivienne Awosoga (Wentworth), Nicholas Burton (Pieces of Her), Karina Banno (Reckoning), Megan Mackenzie, Kick Gurry (Edge of Tomorrow), Catherine Van-Davies (Hungry Ghosts), Alexander England (Offspring), and Ione Skye (Arrested Development).

Barons premieres in the US on Monday, May 29, at 9 PM ET, on The CW.
