Before he played Logan Roy in the smash hit series Succession, Primetime Emmy® winner Brian Cox (Shetland, Medici, Nuremberg) starred in another series as a wealthy and successful businessman whose children vie to be his successor.

Set against the backdrop of the Torres Strait, The Straits centers on the Montebello family, whose patriarch, Harry Montebello (Brian Cox), runs one of the most successful crime organizations in Queensland. His smuggling business — of drugs into Australia, and guns and exotic wildlife out — has made him a rich man. With wife Kitty (Rena Owen, The Gloaming), their four grown children and boatloads of money, Harry seems to have it all.

And he gets more than he bargained for after making a major announcement: He wants his three sons — Noel (Aaron Fa’aoso, East West 101), Marou (Jim Bani, Black Snow), and Gary (Firass Durani, Mr Inbetween) — to compete for the right to replace him as head of the family when the time comes for him to retire. This sparks a vicious power struggle in the family, with the three brothers and their sister, Sissi (Suzannah Bayes-Morton, The Unlisted), jockeying for dominant position.

Meanwhile, the entire family faces a series of threats to the business and to their lives, as they come under attack from ambitious bikers and gangs…

The ten-episode series features Emma Lung (Wolf Like Me), Kate Jenkinson (Five Bedrooms), Cramer Cain (Troppo), Tasia Zalar (Mystery Road), and Chum Ehelepola (The Newsreader), amongst others.

Ovation TV hasn’t announced yet the debut date for The Straits. Stay tuned for updates.
