Adapted from Paul Cleave’s international bestseller The Cleaner, the first title in his “Joe Middleton” series of crime novels, Dark City: The Cleaner is reminiscent of Dexter with a dash of High Potential, but with a twist.

The series centers on Joe Middleton (Cohen Holloway, Under the Vines, Top of the Lake), who works as a cleaner at the police station in Christchurch, New Zealand. Similar to office cleaners everywhere, he’s all but invisible to the staffers around him. But what the cops have noticed, though, are his victims — women murdered by a serial killer they’ve dubbed “the Christchurch Carver.”

The police suspect the Carver has killed again when another victim is found, murdered in her own home. Except Joe didn’t do it. And he wants to know who did. So, he sets out to find out who the copycat killer is while concurrently looking for his next target. Then he meets Melissa (Chelsie Preston Crayford, A Remarkable Place to Die, Underbelly). What he doesn’t count on is, she has made him her prey.

Dark City: The Cleaner is now streaming in the US on Prime Video.

The cast also includes Dea Doglione (The Gone), Elizabeth Hawthorne (The Gone), Robbie Magasiva (Wentworth), David De Lautour (Westside), Hannah Marshall (Packed to the Rafters), and Jordan Mooney (Westside), amongst others.
