Amazon Freevee announced today the release date for library episodes of the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours.
For folks who aren’t familiar with Neighbours, the series was a daily drama about the lives, loves, and challenges of the residents on Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, Australia, a fictional suburb of Melbourne. After airing nearly 9,000 episodes over 37 years, making it the longest-running soap opera in Australian TV history, it was canceled in spring 2022 — and recommissioned last autumn.
Select episodes of Neighbours will launch on Amazon Freevee starting February 23, including all episodes from Season “2012,” which feature the show’s memorable first kiss between characters Chris (James Mason) and Aidan (Bob Morley), as well as Toadie’s (Ryan Moloney) heartwarming proposal to Sonya (Eve Money), and Lucas (Scott Major) and Vanessa’s (Alin Sumarwata) dramatic wedding day.
The library content will be available exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the US and UK. Prime Video customers in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and South Africa will also have access to the previous seasons and episodes.
Additionally, a selection of the most legendary episodes of Neighbours will also launch on the service, including a variety of episodes featuring actors Margot Robbie (Babylon), Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan (Dial M for Middlesbrough), Guy Pearce (Jack Irish), Natalie Imbruglia, and Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games).
After the initial drop, a library season of Neighbours will launch on the service every month until the show’s hotly-anticipated premiere later this year.
Starting February 28, Amazon Freevee will also launch a variety of Neighbours linear free ad-supported streaming television channels (FAST channels), including “Neighbours – Looking Back” (Channel 1) and “Best of Neighbours” (Channel 2).
The continuation of Neighbours will follow the finale in 2022, which was watched by millions of fans. It will premiere exclusively and for free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US.
Last year Amazon Freevee and Fremantle announced they would be bringing back Neighbours with Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney, and Jackie Woodburne returning to reprise their leading roles. The revitalized series will also stream on Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and South Africa. Production is set to start early this year, with a world premiere slated for the second half of 2023.
Australia’s Network 10, which aired Neighbours for 36 years, will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new chapter of the series.
Stay tuned for updates.
