NATIONAL PREMIERES
Mr. Inbetween: Season 2 (Australia)
One of the best new shows of 2018 (and one of my favorites), the award-winning dark comedy-drama Mr Inbetween returns to telly with its highly-anticipated second season. Series creator and writer Scott Ryan (The Magician) reprises his starring role as Ray Shoesmith — father of a young daughter, an ex-husband, a boyfriend, a brother, and a best friend. Also a criminal for hire — a debt collector, a fixer, a torpedo. You get the picture.
The new season of the half-hour series finds Ray’s work and personal life beginning to collide, and Ray struggling to keep both sides of his life from imploding.
The series costars Brooke Satchwell (Dead Lucky), Justin Rosniak (Home and Away), newcomer Chika Yasumura, Nicholas Cassim (Winter), and Damon Herriman (Secret City).
Mr. Inbetween: Season 2, an FX Original series, premieres in the US on Thursday, September 12, at 10 PM ET, only on FX.
Glitch: Season 3 (Final) (Australia)
Another of my favorite new shows, this one from 2016, is Glitch, the award-winning paranormal-sci-fi drama, which returns for its third and final season.
The invisible barrier that had kept the Risen inside Yoorana is no more, so they begin moving into the world beyond their former boundary. What they can’t escape is their past, and what they don’t know is who’s pursuing them. But there is clearly a threat looming, and each of the Risen will have to confront a moment of truth and make a critical choice.
Returning for Season 3 are Patrick Brammall (No Activity), Emma Booth (Underbelly), Rodger Corser (The Heart Guy), Sean Keenan (Newton’s Law), Hannah Monson (The Leftovers), John Leary (The Letdown), Aaron McGrath (Mystery Road), Rob Collins (Secret City), Luke Arnold (Black Sails), and Pernilla August (The Legacy).
Joining the cast are Jessica Faulkner (Mustangs FC), Harry Tseng (Winter), Jackson Gallagher (Home and Away), Dustin Clare (Tidelands), Susan Prior (Safe Harbour), and Anna McGahan (The Doctor Blake Mysteries).
Glitch: Season 3, a Netflix Original series, premieres in the US on Wednesday, September 25, exclusively on Netflix.
NON-PREMIERE PROGRAMS HEADED TO STREAMING SERVICES
Rosehaven: Season 3 (Australia)
Real-life best friends and series creators Luke McGregor (Utopia) and Celia Pacquola (Offspring) star as fictional best friends-turned-real estate colleagues Daniel McCallum and Emma Dawes in the latest season of this award-winning comedy series set in Tasmania.
The eight episodes find Daniel and Emma facing changes in their personal lives, plus a real estate opportunity that threatens to divide the whole town. They also make off with a pig.
Featuring Kris McQuade (Mystery Road) and Katie Robertson (Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries), Rosehaven: Season 3 begins streaming Wednesday, September 4, on Sundance Now.
Deep Water (Australia)
Inspired by actual events, four-part mystery-crime drama Deep Water follows Detectives Tori Lustigman (Yael Stone, Orange is the New Black) and Nick Manning (Noah Taylor, Preacher) as they investigate the brutal murder of a young man in Bondi. As corpses pile up, Tori and Nick uncover from decades-old case files dozens of possible murders that could have been the work of the same serial killer.
Costarring William McInnes (Rake), Danielle Cormack (My Life Is Murder), Jeremy Lindsay Taylor (Romper Stomper), Craig McLachlan (The Doctor Blake Mysteries), Dan Spielman (Sisters), Ben Oxenbould (The Code), and Simon Burke (Dead Lucky), Deep Water begins streaming Thursday, September 19, on Sundance Now.
The Time of Our Lives: Series 1 (Australia)
Set in Melbourne, drama The Time of Our Lives revolves around the lives of the close-knit Tivolli clan, as well as members of their extended family, as they navigate their way through life’s ups and downs — from relationships and parenting, to homes and careers.
The series stars Claudia Karvan (Newton’s Law), Justine Clarke (Home and Away), Shane Jacobson (Jack Irish), Stephen Curry (Pine Gap), and William McInnes (Deep Water).
A Logie Awards nominee for Most Outstanding Drama Series, The Time of Our Lives: Series 1 begins streaming Monday, September 23, on Acorn TV.
