The new mystery-thriller series Mystery Road premiered in Australia a little more than two weeks ago. In roughly two months it will be streaming in North America.
Mystery Road stars two-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe®, Emmy®, and BAFTA Awards winner Judy Davis (My Brilliant Career, Husbands and Wives, The Starter Wife) and Australian Film Critics Association and Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards winner Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish, A Place to Call Home) as detectives investigating the mysterious disappearance of two young men in a remote outback town.
Pedersen plays indigenous Detective Jay Swan, who is sent to the remote outback town of Patterson for what he thinks will be a simple investigation into the disappearance of two young jackaroos (that is, workers on a sheep or cattle station). His partner on the case is tough local cop Emma James (Judy Davis). As they dig deeper in the case, their investigation gradually peels away the layers of the town, as Jay’s ability to hunt beneath the surface reveals crimes and miscarriages of justice that stretch far back into Patterson’s history.
A spinoff of the 2013 film of the same name, Mystery Road costars Deborah Mailman (Offspring, The Sapphires), Colin Friels (Killing Time, Water Rats), and Wayne Blair (Cleverman, Double Trouble).
A Bunya Production for ABC Australia, the six-part miniseries is directed by Rachel Perkins (Redfern Now, Jasper Jones) and produced by David Jowsey (Mystery Road, Goldstone) and Greer Simpkin (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, The Doctor Blake Mysteries), alongside executive producers Sally Riley and Ivan Sen.
Acorn TV will premiere Mystery Road in North America as an Acorn TV Original series in August 2018. Stay tuned for updates.
