NATIONAL PREMIERES
Prime Minister (US-NZ)
This documentary feature about Jacinda Arden, New Zealand’s 40th Prime Minister, takes viewers behind the scenes of her administration and her private life. It follows her over seven years, as she is catapulted to the top of New Zealand politics, becomes a global political icon, resigns from office, and continues to champion the fight against isolationism, fear, and the distortion of truth. Intimate home footage shot by her husband, broadcaster Clarke Gayford, and audio interviews from her time in office, give viewers unparalleled access and an unfiltered window into her years in power.
Prime Minister, an HBO Original Documentary, premieres in the US on Tuesday, September 30, exclusively on HBO Max and its digital channels, including HBO Max on Prime Channels.
LOCAL/REGIONAL PREMIERES
Totally, Completely Fine (AU-US)
Inspired by true events, this six-part dark comedy series explores the complexities of grief, the power of friendship, and the ways in which sadness can unite people. It follows 20-something Vivian Cunningham (Thomasin McKenzie, Life After Life, Joy), whose life is a mess. Last week she accidentally burned down her brother’s vegan food truck with a bacon-flavored vape; this week she inherited her grandfather’s coastal clifftop shack and is tasked with helping people who come too close to the edge. Strangely enough, they’ve responded to her chaotic, nihilistic brand of psychology. Maybe, just maybe, in saving these people, she’ll slowly start to save herself.
Totally Completely Fine begins streaming in the US on Monday, September 1, on Acorn TV and its digital channels, including Acorn TV on Prime Channels.
Return to Paradise: Season 1 (AU-UK)
A spin-off of the hit British series Death in Paradise, set against the spectacular backdrop of the Australian coastal landscape, this murder mystery-of-the-week series follows Australian ex-pat Mackenzie “Mack” Clarke (Anna Samson, Home and Away, Dead Lucky), a golden girl of the London Metropolitan Police force, who has an intuitive approach to detective work and has built a reputation for being able to crack the most impossible of cases.
However, after being accused of tampering with evidence, Mack is forced to pull up stakes and move back to her childhood home of Dolphin Cove, a beautiful, idyllic, beachside hamlet, surfers paradise… and her worst nightmare. Having escaped from here six years ago, Mack vowed she’d never return, leaving a lot of unfinished business and unanswered questions. On her return, she’s still no fan of the town, and the locals aren’t fans of hers, either; everyone would rather she not to be there, including Mack herself. But when a murder takes place in Dolphin Cove, Mack can’t help but put her inspired detective brilliance to good use and, despite her reservations, determines that she needs to make the best of it, including tying up the loose ends with Forensic Pathologist Glenn Strong (Tai Hara, Home & Away, Colin From Accounts), the ex-fiancé she left at the altar.
The series costars Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso) as Detective Senior Constable Colin Cartwright; Catherine McClements (Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries) as Senior Sergeant Philomena Strong, Mackenzie’s boss and Glenn’s mother; Celia Ireland (Wentworth) as police volunteer Reggie Rocco; Aaron L. McGrath (Glitch) as Constable Felix Wilkinson; and Andrea Demetriades (Janet King) as Daisy Dixon, Glenn’s girlfriend.
Return to Paradise: Season 1 begins streaming in the US on Tuesday, September 2, on BritBox and its digital channels, including BritBox on Prime Channels.
Return to Paradise: Season One DVD
Spartacus: Seasons 1-3 + Prequel (Complete Series) (US)
This popular period action drama series was inspired by the historical figure, Spartacus, the famed Thracian gladiator who led a slave uprising against the Roman Republic. The first season starred Andy Whitfield (McLeod’s Daughters) as Spartacus, with Liam McIntyre (The Flash) taking over the role after Whitfield’s passing. The prequel, titled Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which launched in between Seasons 2 and 3 of the main series, delves into the history of the House of Batiatus and the city of Capua before the arrival of Spartacus.
The complete Spartacus series begins streaming in the US on Tuesday, September 23, on Netflix.
Spartacus: The Complete Series DVD
Good Cop/Bad Cop (AU-US)
This police procedural dramedy series follows Lou (Leighton Meester, Gossip Girl, Single Parents) and Henry (Luke Cook, Katy Keene, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), an odd sister-and-brother detective team on a small Pacific Northwest police force, who must contend with colorful residents, a serious lack of resources, and their very complicated dynamics with each other and with their police chief, Big Hank (Clancy Brown, Dexter: New Blood, Billions), who happens to be their father.
The cast includes Devon Terrell (Totally Completely Fine), Scott Lee (Home and Away), William McKenna (Nowhere Boys), Shamita Siva (Single, Out), Blazey Best (Janet King), and Grace Chow (Mystery Road: Origin), amongst others.
Good Cop/Bad Cop begins streaming in the US on Tuesday, September 30, on HBO Max and its digital channels, including HBO Max on Prime Channels.
