North American fans of The Heart Guy, rejoice! Your favorite bad-boy Aussie doctor returns when the drama’s third season premieres in November.
As of this writing, Series 3 of The Heart Guy is the only Down Under program premiere in the US next month. Well, one is better than none.
Especially when it’s this binge-worthy Australian drama starring Rodger Corser (Glitch, The Doctor Blake Mysteries) as Hugh Knight, a brilliant and charming heart surgeon forced to work for a year as a GP in his hometown of Whyhope as professional penance.

Filled with heart and humor, the new season opens with a shocker: Knight family patriarch, Jim (Steve Bisley, East of Everything), has died, and his family and friends have gathered for his funeral.
Everyone is grieving, but Jim’s sudden passing hits Meryl (Tina Bursill, Neighbours), his widow, and their “son” (actually grandson) Ajax (Blind) particularly hard. And Matt’s (Ryan Johnson, Out of the Blue) way of mourning includes taking out his upsets about a Knight family tradition on big brother Hugh, who inherited the family farm plus three million dollars of debt.
On a brighter note, Hugh gets unexpected news, which could return him to Sydney and his heart surgery career before his year is up — just as things between him and Penny (Hayley McElhinney, The Babadook) are heating up. And not just in the bedroom, either. The two doctors are about to host the grand opening of their Knight Cartwright Heart Clinic, the new regional cardiac unit housed within the Whyhope Hospital.
More surprises are in store — from a potentially fatal health issue for Hayley (Chloe Bayliss, Reef Doctors) and a visit to Charlie (Nicole da Silva, Wentworth) et al from her dad, Carlito (Vince Colosimo, Janet King), to Penny becoming a sensation on YouTube and Harriet (Genevieve Hegney, Janet King), Hugh’s American now-ex-wife, returning to Whyhope to bring him news of her own.
Returning cast members include Belinda Bromilow (Packed to the Rafters), Charles Wu (Secret City), Brittany Clark (Shortland Street), Winta McGrath (Boys in the Trees), and Uli Latukefu (Harrow).
New to the series are Miranda Tapsell (Newton’s Law), Alan Dukes (Jack Irish), and Don Hany (East West 101).
The Heart Guy: Series 3 premieres in the US and Canada on Monday, November 12, exclusively on Acorn TV and the Acorn TV channel on Amazon.
